So I got a street demon 625 and thought it was a pretty sweet carb until.... during tuning I ended up breaking off an inner piece of the top hat of the carb. It's the piece you lock and unlock to change the opening rate of the goggle flap..... basically your secondaries. After I dug into and saw it was broken I really noticed how cheap the whole top hat assembly of this carb was. Anyways called Demon tech, after 5 phone calls I finally got an asnwer ( sheesh ). They tell me I need to send them the carb and they can repair it and send it back for 125. Well thats great but its still a weak piece ( now even weaker due to a repair ) that will likely fail again and leave me hanging. I like the idea of the carb but I'm sticking with the old holley for some time now. Just putting this out there as an information piece, all I saw were great reviews of it. It is a good carb but in my opinion not built well enough to hold up nearly as long as your holley or edelbrock.
I just pulled a Holley 4160 out of the wreckers, no telling how long it was sitting out there. Found spiders in the float bowl, clogged passageways and generally, it was a giant mess. I gave it a good soak in the ultrasonic, blew it out with low air pressure and installed a fresh rebuild kit. For the price I spent, about $85 all in, it works just fine and couldn’t be happier with the results. The Holley's, Webber’s etc… parts are still plentiful and their replacement bits are very reasonable. I think it would be hard to go wrong.
Did you buy new or is it used? If new...take it back and get your money back. If used...then it wasn't a sweet deal after all.
I got it used so I'm stuck with it. What blew me away was looking at the area it broke......its an area that's maybe 1/4 " thick and its the only structural piece holding that function of the carb. And after looking at the broken piece its no wonder it looks like poorly cast plastic. I will never buy another demon......the earlier demons I've always heard to be junk but this new street demon was suppose to be a great piece..... And turns out it is.....great conversation piece as my new shop paper weight.
Don't know, I really like mine. Easy to tune and runs great. Maybe the previous owner "weakened" yours and that's why he sold it. For $125 they probably would replace the whole top and make sure everything is right with it.
For 125 they said they would only repair the broken piece. Told me it would be expensive to replace it because it would need to be flow tested and custom made for my lower??? For 125 its not worth it to me its always going to be a weak area if its repaired. For 125 I can get a used holley that you need a hammer to break. But other then that I agree it was a good carb.

Yeah when I called tech support I got holley on the phone. The point I was making isnthatbthe street demon is plastic more or less. For the price of the demon repair I can get a good old holley classic tough as nails carb.
You can also get a Quick Fuel for a bit more than a Holley. I have a QF580 and it runs great. A lot smoother and easier to adjust than a Holley.
What I dont get is, if youre going to swap carbs, why buy used to replace a used carb? you can always buy through summit and return the broken one for refund j/k lol so, I take it you got the polymer version and not the aluminum body version?
if you got it used ..a lower then retail..why not just pay the 100 to get it repaired? best o.e carb is Q-jet by the right builder anyway..summit specials are junk http://www.everyday-performance.com/ and http://www.quadrajetpower.com/services.html those are the two premeir Q-jet guys now that John Osbourne quit servicing them not hard to adapt one to ford intake, and cant beat the part throttle response of a Q-jet..only one that would rive that would be Thermoquads..which are probably all junk by now, and the street demon you have
I ran a Q-jet on a 289 in the mid-70s. Ran well, the only problem I had was the fuel percolating in that center fuel bowl when things got hot. Plus you have to use an adaptor to mount it and they've been proven to hinder air flow.
