My recently bought 75 2 Door Mav ( very original and nicely restored) is doing OK - been driving it for work almost every day - it is a 250 stick with the 3 speed, however something seems strange. The brake and the clutch pedal are not straight down - they seem to be canted toward the left (outboard) about 15° - everything works OK and every thing appears OK. nothing loose, nothing binding etc. Maybe this is normal? but having owned a 76 new in 76, I don't recall them being this way - it just seems not right... Thanks for any input. john
The pedal hanger bushings are worn far beyond the potmetal they're made of. There are two ways to fix this. Try to locate a new pedal support (not sure if anyone makes these, but they're available for classic Mustangs) or remove the support and install new bushings or bearings ( these are available for Mustangs, they should also work in a Mav support)
Thanks - I'll need to look a bit more closely but - how serious is this, could it be or become a safety issue?
Yea, it could as your clutch pedal could possibly become inoperative. Ditto for the brakes, if the pedal shaft wears completely thru the pedal support. It'll only get worse with time, the shaft has worn completely thru the shaft bushing(s) now, One more than the other, that's why the pedals are canted at an angle. Been there-done all that back in the 80's with a big block 67 Stang.
