oil dipstick removal

    i need to know if there is a good way to remove the dip stick tube from a front sump oil pan timing cover i have one i need to remove but im afraid i will mess something up

    1972 Maverick 2 door.Original V-8 3 spd std shift.Also a 72 one owner Sprint sporting a 351 Windsor
    They tend to seat pretty durn tight. I have had good luck getting the tube to come loose by twisting it around in the cover and then pull it out as you twist it. It may take a bit of heat to get it moveing,just be gentle or ist gonna break off flush with the boss on the cover. If its allready broken off...Drill it out. Good luck

    If you use a punch the same size as the hole the you should be able to knock it out from the inside.

    If the timing cover is still on the engine,put a phillips screwdriver that just fits in the tube and grab it with visegrips and tap under the visegrips with a medium size hammer. It will come out,undamaged this way. If the cover is off do as Paul S suggested. Good luck with it cause they can be a pain! Also it wouldn`t hurt to spray something like PB blaster or another kind of penetrating oil on it and let it soak for awhile first.:thumbs2:
