Working on a 1975 Maverick been sitting for almost a year...replaced manifold gaskets and rebuilt carb...got it running. Question is I seem to be getting oil in the coolant...where could it be coming from???

Is it oil or transmission fluid? Tran. fluid can come through the radiator cooling tank.

Did you use sealer on the gasket around the water ports?

I live in Florida so no freeze. I did use sealer around water the water ports on the manifold, even if that wasn't perfect how can water mix with oil in the manifold? There is only air and water in coolant passages..right? The radiator was repaired before I joined the mix..so maybe the transmission line is leaking into radiator. There was what appeared to be coolant mixed with oil when I changed oil, which I thought maybe came from changing the manifold. Where is the engine block drain plug..didn't see one..would like to drain and rinse the block. If the block or heads were cracked the oil would look milky?..or the engine would blow white smoke or stop running...and I have none of those.

The water port leaking between the head and intake will end up in the oil pan

Makes sense...but wouldn't that show as smoke or vapor lock?

It would if it leaked into the combustion chamber, but leaking into the lifter valley and getting into the oil pan won't

The complaint was oil in the coolant, not coolant in the oil.

Would the engine oil get into the oil if head or block was cracked in the right place. Engine oil pressure is normaly higher than coolant pressure.
