I picked up a set of Halo Roof Chrome today (thanks Jerry) and had mentioned to Earl and Terry that I was gonna put a fake Black Halo top on my 74 to go with the side trim since I won't be removing it anytime soon. Earl said it would look bad and thought I was joking. I figured I could use some Rustoleum Satin Black and texturize it with a a roller or something. Anyone else think it would look good on my 74?
I am not a big fan of that look, but it is you car. If you are looking for accent have you considered blacking out the raised section of the hood going into the scoop?
Halo trim Dan, My 73 Grabber has the Halo top and trim. It looks good if your are going for the luxury type look(if there is such a thing in a MAverick), but it kills the sporty/muscle car look. I am leaving mine on for now, but plan on having it removed when ever I decide to repaint the whole car. Mine is orange too, so that does not help things either. My opinion is leave it off. I think you would regret putting it on. JMO. Thanks Allen Small
my , would be to just paint it if you going to do it. kind of like a tu-tone job, I wouldn't texture it.
I like it on a 100% stock car in excellent condition. In other words on a clean and correct showroom type restoration. If you are building your car up at all as a muscle car or doing a restomod, forget it. JMHO But hey, we are Maverick's! So do whatever you like!
I have been telling a buddy of mine that two tone paint and vinyl tops are going to make a comeback. He doesn't believe me. When was the last time that you saw a '61-'64 Impala or other with a top painted different from the body? I am trying to get him to paint the top on his '65 Cyclone black while the body is red. It's coming.
I'm not really a fan of that style vinly top. I had one on my LDO and I stripped it off. In my opinion the full vinyl top (goes down to the drip rails, and down the quarter behind the rear wing windows) looks the best. I would leave the top off in your case in my opinion. -Corbin
Tops Well, my car has the halo vinal top and I think it looks nice. I ordered my first Grabber new without the top to save money. Options on a car, makes it more valuable like it or not! A vinal top in the 70's was common usually on more expansive cars. Most people I know restoring Torino, Chevelles, Mustangs are replacing the vinal top.
My 1974 LDO has a halo vinyl top. My orange car used to have a vinyl top. There is NO WAY I was going to put the vinyl top back on after I painted it. Even though I put a survey up on my website asking for opinions...and it came back with more people in favor of me leaving it on.....NO WAY!!! I knew waht I was going to do even before I put the survey up.....I was just curious to see what people would say. But, since you asked.....there is no way I would put one on a car that didn't already have one.....especially one like yours. Now...if you would have left on the big bumpers...I would say the vinyl top would be OK then.
I like the Halo, it is the sportiest of vinyl tops. It really completes my Grabber. It shouldn't be very expensive to add real vinyl, I think I paid $100, it's just one piece no sewing.
