Ok so I've been given another 300 by the wife to spend on the maverick. Here is my setup : 306 flat tops torker I intake Holley 4160 carb ( no mods ) Long tube headers Erson mid range cam .484 lift GT40 heads / 1.72 crane energizer roller rockers 3 speed toploader 4.10 gears 9" rear So ive got the 300 to spend. My original thought was to replace the torker II with a weiand stealth and order the metering block upgrade for the 4160 so I can finally rejet the secondaries. Not sure how much I will actually gain by swapping to a stealth or performer rpm intake???? Things I could spend the money on......... Carb: Either modify with a kit or replace Intake : Thinking performer rpm or stealth Exhaust: Car has small exhaust after headers w/ glasspacks Interior: Needs dynomat and carpet Suspension: thought about replacing my broken / worn traction bars with caltrac pieces What do you guys think? I'm looking for the best bang for my buck here. This is the last modding I'll be doing until winter so I want to make it count Thanks
Not much money for any mechanical stuff.. I have seen carbs need work after sitting so that should not be a choice. Pistons aren't going far if the rest isn't ready. Intake is no good without the right carb.. Long tubes can wait till heads are back on after the pistons.. Sounds like carpet and Dynamat is a possibility. But that will open another area of worms lol
The holley I have is in good shape was wondering if doing the metering block kit was worth it or if replacing it with a 4150 or demon was a better idea. I think you misunderstood my post. The car is together and running and driving just trying to improve on what I have. The top list is what's on it now and the bottom is what I was thinking about doing.
I sure did.. I hear the Performer RPM is restrictive.. Unless I'm wrong about that also I am partial to Holley and working with what I have unless I find it can't get better.
in all seriousness id upgrade the exhaust and rejet your carb. this will be neeeded with any more power modifications anyway.
I would do the exhaust. Any changes on the intake side will be futile with a restrictive exhaust system.
I believe the exhaust there is around 1 1/2 to 1 7/8 Id.......all the shops around here are crazy expensive for exhaust. My current exhaust runs through glass packs and terminates well before the rear axle. How much can I expect to gain by going 2 1/2 in through single chambers terminating before rear axle? Any ideas?
With chambered mufflers not much, look for some straight through mufflers. And going to a bigger exhaust should help quite a bit as your exhaust is less than 2". Imagine breathing through a coffee stir, then a drinking straw, that's how your engine feels.
Ok thanks. I'll try and see what's out there for straight through. Buddy of mine said he used the thrush tube style mufflers and they had a good exhaust note. Would those be considered a straight through muffler?
