then technically my 1970 is a 69.5. I thought all 1970 models had the key on the tray and that the key was put on the column in 1971

Technically, a '69.5 Maverick does not exist, Ford never made a '69 model year Maverick. it is just a term someone came up with to identify between the early '70 model year cars (built in the spring and summer of 1969) and the later '70 cars. '69.5 Mavericks have the ignition switch on the package tray next to the radio, a smaller diamater steering column that resembles a '69 Mustang column (and uses a '69 Mustang turn signal switch), a steering wheel that has a chrome horn "ring" on it instead of just a horn button, smaller 9 inch front drum brakes from the Falcon with '69.5 only brake lines that are no longer available, and the package tray itself was diffrent in 69.5's from the later cars (it has a extra piece riveted to the top of it and is beefed up where the ignition switch mounts. '69.5 Mavericks do not have a sticker inside the door jamb like all other Mavericks, instead they have a metal tag riveted to the door. '69.5's also have a diffrent style of throttle cable which has a mechanical linnkage on the end. Here are some pics of my '69.5. My car does not have the original steering wheel or front seat. Everything else is original. My particular car was buck tagged on July 15, 1969, and the door tag has a date code of July 17, 1969. I have since used the car for parts after discovering it had been rearended and side swiped bad enough to do structural damage.
Here are a few more pics, of the diffrent throttle cable and also the front valance (I converted the car to the later style cable during the few months that I drove it daily). From what I have seen, '69.5 Mavericks have a larger lip at the bottom of the opening then '70-'72 Mavericks.
My 69.5 didn't have that mechanical linkage on it nor does it have the rivited area on the dash tray, but it is factory a/c car
