What you got? DO you like it? How much does it weigh?

I am looking for an Open Hauler. I like the aluminum ones? WHat should I look for or avoid?
I am assuming a 16 footer should work for Mavs????
    Thanks

18' Big Tex 70 DM (you'll like the extra couple feet of room - you can put your 4-wheeler in front of the Mav to use at the track).

I have a Black 70DM, I like it...if you go big tex and want to put on a
tounge box order the longer front frame. I took a stock one of the lot and didn't check that and cant put a box on without moving the jack. also you can order it with more tie downs.

I got the 16 footer because it fits in my garage. I really like it but I wish I could have gotten one with a dovetail...would have made it sooooo much easier to load/unload, but the trailers around here didn't have any 16 footers w/ a dovetail. I just back my truck up on some ramps and it tilts the trailer and works great.

Anything under 18' has tuff time with resale. Aluminum is great!! I have pulled all types,, I really think the wood decks pull better, but have more to maintain when the years add up. If I were to seriously look at an open trailer I would go aluminum at this stage of my old and feeble life lol.

I bought an all steel 16` dove tail with diamond plate floor and fenders.

The ramps are extra long and slide straight out of the rear of the trailer (love that feature)

It has brakes on one axle and came with New " trailer type " Tires . Some trailers are sold brand new with used car tires on them .

I bought it New and paid $1,600.00 In feb. 2005. It was the best deal I could find in the state at the time.

I understand that the rising cost of steel has made trailer prices climb alot lately.

I`m very happy with it. (y)

18ft., dove tail, steel, open in the middle, weighs 1,750lbs.
Being open in the middle, don't have many ask to borrow it to haul hay, lumber or what have you. That's a plus to me, but I'm a grouchy old cuss. Go figure.
I also put a winch on the front in case of race car breakdown.

I just got my trailer today. I dont know anything about trailers but it is a 16fter. I would like to know what strapes do you get? I saw some a Wal-Mart that says heavy duty 3000 lbs. I was thinking I would need 5000lbs strapes for a pick up truck. Also if you have any tips on how to load the car. Someone told me to make sure the car is evan over the 2 axles or it will shake at certain speeds.

I got my straps at Sam's Club. Same straps as Wally world but half price.
I pull my car on the trailer until the back of the truck starts to sit down just alittle. You want to have some weight on the truck, not a lot but some. Now I have paint stripes on it where I want the front axle to sit. With the mark or stripe there's no guessing. My wife tells me when I hit the mark. That's it.

The straps are yellow, about 2" wide, California DOT approved. They are used on semi trailers for heavy loads. More than good enough for a pickup. I think the price was $12 each, total of $48 plus tax.

Check out M & R, I have bought 2 sets from them, great stuff.
I use 2 tie-back straps in the front and 2 ratchet straps in the back. They offer these in a kit form.

I have the same trailer as Rick and I love it. I just sold my old 16 footer with wood floor. It did me good for the last 15 years but this Big Tex puts it to shame.

I would just buy a nice dove tail 18 footer (WOOD) or shop for a nice used aluminum/metal/steel one
the big Tex are very nice.
but you need to weigh the cost verses usage. How often will you really use one?

Mine is 18 foot and I can put it straight in the garage and still have another car in there (24x24).

everything everyone mentioned is very nice stuff. (y)

    Carson Trailer here

I have an 18 foot Carson trailer. All diamond plate steel, dove tail, rear loading ramps, I was convinced by the saleman to get the extended tongue and extra wide.
Extended tongue allows for a work box, extra wide allows for a full sized pickup. 4 "D" rings sunk into the bed, 2 at front and 2 at rear. I have a winch mounted on front.
A couple of years ago I had some stake pockets installed, now I can put wood sides and use it for hauling other items.
Very happy with it, I looked at the Big Tex trailers and for the money I liked the Carson better. Small things such as rear ramps and heavier gauge steel fenders. I think the deck height is taller on the Carson, as I do not have to have removeable or tilting fenders for car door clearance.

A couple of things I would do different next time would be dual brake axles, and a couple of more "D" rings set into the deck.

I like the solid deck, in spite of the added weight. I can use the trailer as a work platform, i.e. jacking and jack stands. I have parted many Cougars on that trailer.
