For a weekend auto crosser/street car??(not a dedicated one) put in a cage that meets the sactioning bodys rules along with all other required safety equipement.(including one or two fire extinguishers)that you can find and use in a smoke filled car.Beef up the suspension:Stronger nuts/bolts on all suspension attaching points.Stronger front end parts(tie rods/sleeves ball joints etc...)You would be surprised how easy the stock stuff breaks.Stronger rear axles for shure. The side loads from cornering at high speeds will break em when you least expect it(while cutting the perfect apex on a turn with just the right amount of throttle steer)(dont ask)Better brakes(racing compounds for pads/shoes)These are just a few off the top of my head.Be concerned with safety/durability first. Then work on handling/speed.If your going to build a dedicated racer then worry about engine location/suspension geometry etc... The stock suspension design is actually pretty good(ask the shelby racers) You just need to make it stronger and optimise whats there.(lower the front end)Stiffer sway bars(put one in back if you havent yet.Good luck.

without Comet now just keeping in touch
If I ever got an itch to race my Comet autocross is what I would do, a car that can turn is much more interesting to me than one that goes straight
