I've been thinking on how to change the interior color (especially the dash) when I had the idea that I could airbrush them. What kind of paint do I need to use?

it depends on what your painting. the dash will take regular paint, but the plastics need a dye, there a few companies selling vynil/plastic "paint" that will dye in to the material, as opossed to paint wich just sits on top of the surface. i found this out the hard way. I primered then painted the back seat plastics, chipped and scratched in a few weeks, wasted my time.

What we do when we paint dashes is to use the same kind of paint that we use on the outside of a car, only we use a flattening agent in the clear. It's a pretty involved process since all the gages and other things that do not get painted need to be taped up and the dash sanded and primed before it's painted. You could achieve good results just using rattle cans, depending on what color you want to use and if the color can be purchased in semi-gloss or satin colors.

To do it right..remove everything you can and then you won't have to tape it up

i used vinyl/plastic paint from o'reillys haven't had one chip yet it's been one year now. i also painted my back seat with the same stuff and put a clear coat on it, no cracks yet. i removed everything from the car to paint it and clean it, the slightest amount of dirt will make the paint not stick. i cleaned everything with Fast Orange hand soap works really good even removed some old paint.

When you say "dyes", is that the same thing that the SEM website is referring to as "vinyl and plastic coating"? http://www.tcpglobal.com/autobodydepot/sealcoat.aspx
Everyone I've talked to says SEM is the best stuff for this. I just want to make sure that I order the correct stuff from SEM.

Yes...be certain to use their cleaning agent for all the stuff your going to paint and their vinyl/plastic prep as well for the vinyl/plastic parts.(It opens the pores in the vinyl/plastic and allows the dye to saturate and adhere) for ever.

Poke around here and you'll find a few vids. Better yet, call them (Thad or Donna) and find out for sure. Good people to deal with and very knowledgable on all that they sell. I redid my interior from blue to black using their SEM surecoat...
