I need to get some bucket seats for my 1972 maverick grabber. it currently has a bench seat I need to know what are some of the bucket seats out of other cars that will fit in with little to no modification ( i know i'll have to drill some more holes.)I need a list of cars seats to look for when i go to the junkyard...in example.....escort,eclipse,any type of car. preferably with long rails so i can slide that sucker back far.......!!!!!!! any pics of buckets installed with information and what they come out of would be crucial!!! thanks alot everyone. ~Dan~
The thing to do is to get the original bucket seat rails from a maverick, and those will bolt to just about any other ford seat, maybe other manufactorers too, this way you don't have to drill holes all over the place. However, I did see a mav in the salvage yards with bucket seats, and I ran over to rob the rails from it, just to find that they weren't mav rails, whoever the owner was just drilled holes straight through the floor pan and bolted it up with a nut. A little mickey moused, but it worked fine.
well i'm not worried about the fabrication to much! i was just really looking for some buckets that look good in the mav but of course will get re-uhpolstered to match but some that were comfortable and look decent....as far as the maverick rails go...to me they're not long enough since i'm 6'6" i'm really uncomfortable. i noticed that some newer cars have long rails and they go back far so whatever goes i guess....thanks
Yeah, I know what you mean, I'm 6'6" too. I just moved the mounting points rearward a few inches. Of course now my girlfriend can't drive the car, but that's not necessarily a bad thing!
I assume you have already seen my seats since you suggested them in your orginal post. I used the eclipse seats and I used the tracks that came on them. All that is necessary is a little drilling and some trimming (the tracks are longer than you need so it looks better to cut them back) I'm about 6'3 so I think they should fit you, they sit low enough so you wouldnt hit your head or anything.:bananaman
seat rails I go along w/ the previous post, I personnally (spelling) Do not know what the big deal is about the tracks! Most of the people on here are very capable of using there head and fabricating some tracks off anything and making it look right and very functionable. I have a set of Honda Accord seats in mine 1998 I believe, I used those tracks and fabricated them so the seats would sit and fit perfectly, in your case these might be the tracks for you. I can push the seat up to the steering wheel and to about 3" of the back. That is my dimes worth, hope it helps. Chandler:bananaman
seats and stuff I have 88 Escort GT seats. All I had to do was drill two holes on each sick of the trans tunnel and shim the inside rear, where it mounts to the floor and I was good to go.
. I've been in the hunt for bucket seats also. I looked at various cars that people use like Fieros, Mustangs, Escorts, etc. I just didn't like the looks of the seats and I didn't think they looked stock. While I want my car to look anything but stock on the outside, I think bucket seats that don't match the interior just kind of ruin the whole muscle car image, at least for me. I was looking for high back bucket seats that you would find in a typical muscle car, non electric, without big supportive wings, and without a ton of plastic on them. What I found last weekend was a pair of high back vinyl bucket seats out of an 82 stang or so, which don't have any headrests (you don't need em with these seats being so tall). I picked them up for 29 bucks a piece with the rails, and I plan to drop them down about an inch and a half or so and modify them to make them look good and be comfortable. I'll give you a picture of the seats tomorrow or something.
. I'm guessing it also shaved off about 40 lbs at least. The stock bench seats are ridiculously heavy.
thats great yea this weekend i'm going to some junkyards and i'm taking a list from everyones ideas and see which ones look good and for the price....immediately i am going to take them to a local custom seat shop and get them done. i kinda like the bench alittle, i just got it redone in black vinyl with the rail-roaded vinyl to match the back so if anyone needs a nice looking bench i'll post a pic... thanks again... also i love the sterring wheel , mavtricks where did you get it....
yea there nice they would look great re-uhpolstered (spelling) to match the back seats.....i like the style of them i'll put 82 or so stang on my peice of paper... so far i have wrote down the honda seats, eclipse, talon, of course any mavericks although thats almost impossible to find here! and a couple of others...this is going to turn out good...i like it now because if they dont have 1 car i'm sure something on the list will be there,,that way the trip was not in vain...thanks.
