anyone else running a 302 with hooker 6901 headers,w/o power steering, and floor shift?i noticed i have a dent in one of my tubes,(driver side)thought it felt like something was hitting/binding,when i turned.anyone have a pic of their pitman arm,or the correct one for non power steering cars they could post?maybe i'm using the wrong one.thank you...chuck.
Chuck,, I have the same setup, but I know the late model cars have a different combo of front end parts. You may have to buy the idler arm that has a drop to it from my memory. Dan
Dunno chuck,, does the drop change the geometry of everything? I am going on memory here from what I went thru 31 years ago with my first Maverick. Dan
well if the pitman arm is hitting the pipe its mounted to the gear box and the idler cant change where the pitman arm mounts to the box ….
Welp, that's it !! Guess you're gonna have to park it and quite worrying about me blowing your doors off !!! Although, I guess you just need to drive straight for me to beat you !!biglaugh: You could always bring the headers here, I'll bring some stock home and we can make our own. Just a thought.
I'm at the same road block, the pipe hits, hard. I cut out the offending piece and am going to midas this afternoon to see if they can re work the pipe. Good luck
When I bought mine, they were already dented just a little, and I have the P/S drop bracket, and not even close to hitting anything. But that is on a P/S car, might be different on a nonP/S car.
Same thing on mine. only fitment problem with 6901's as far as I know. I just welded a couple of pieces of round rod to the existing steering stop. no more hitting, just can't turn all the way.
6901s are the BOMB!!! Just pound them out a bit, and they fit just fine! Sad to say that nobody makes a direct fit for Mav/Comets!
I couldn't get mine to steer to the left at all, dunno why, but midas is gonna try to re work the offending pipe for me, hopefully get it way out of the way.
scooper, how much did you have to pound them in?right now i have a dent on my one tube, about the size of a dime.(from the pitman arm)my buddy, dave(maverickgrabber)had an idea to heat the one pipe up cherry red and pry it out about a half -/3/4 inch.
makes me wonder, since these headers were so mass produced, maybe their qc department wasn't that good?maybe some left the factory,a little bit out of spec/tolerence.i've heard of people having fitment issues and some not.
