I plan to paint the back of the bullitt jet black, the face of the rim my metallic grey but with a little black stirred in, and finally the outer lip polished. So my question, what is the best way to polish rough raw aluminum? 1000 fine steel wool and polish compound? or power ball and polish compound.. etc?

I polished the rough sand cast surfaces of my 3x2's air cleaner cover starting with something like 80 grit sand paper, then down to 120, then the final polish was done with a scotchbrite wheel, finishing up with the same plus rubbing compound. Came out nicely, there are some pics below in my photobucket site. As for wheel rims that are already polished, I always use SOS or brillo pads to shine em up.
