Knowing that everyone has a differant opinion of what a cool Maverick could/shoud be, im just wondering what "style" of Maverick/Comet would be more popular on this forum. 2 or 4 door it dont really matter what u have in mind when you vote. Style 1 will be mavs/comets that are built like they could've came from the muscle building days of the 70's. "Muscle Mavericks" 14,15,16in wheels, jacked up rearend, mean stance, etc. Style 2 will be the lowerd cruiser type of mav/comets. big 18,19,20+ inch wheels, lowerd or even slammed, slow-n-low type of car. Maybe not as extreme as the reference pic I chose, but even something that hints at it. Style 3 will be the "newschool". 16,17,18in wheels, not really having a "vintage muscle" look, but buit to have a more up-to-date look. Something that shows a lot of todays popular style from car building. Newer style rims, thinner wall tires, etc I know there is a lot of variance in what defines the styles, and i know theres more to the style of a car than just the stance and wheel size, and more than just "3 styles" but just going off what I simply stated try to picture a sterotypical car that could sorta fit in the categories. The reference pics came off Google Images and if they are a by chance a members and you dont want em in the poll just say so and i will take em down. The refernce pics are in order (Style 1,2,3) of what i'm trying to describe.
Bet it wouldn't take much to guess my vote... I love #1 as much as #3, but a slight preference for the latter, which is the direction my car's been going. And incidentally, #3 happens to be a car I've seen in person, "Streetrod77" on this board... He's got it mini-tubbed, T-5 conversion, definitely going resto-mod with it. Hell of a sharp car. I doubt he'd mind the use of his pic.
Depends for me. If it's my driver, I would choose number 1. If it's a show car, I would go for option number 2.
restomodding #3 ive only seen about 2-3 actual maverick lowriders. People just don't use these cars for that, cause of the lack of a real frame. #1 is great also, make upgrades but do it tastefully and make it look like it came from the factory. Dan's grabber is the perfect example of that. 4bll, 4speed, etc But it looks 100% stock to the untrained eye. Ray's Grabber kinda falls under that too, but he took the Shelby approach. And i'm pretty damn sure Carroll would approve of that car.
I'm kinda the opposite. (I say only "kinda" because I think #2 is the result of taking #3 way too far) I think, if I had a car I'd mostly show, or not drive all the time, I'd go with #1 for the original (or near-original, at least "period correct") look. But for a driver I say #3 because I've got to modernize it some. Upgraded brakes, wider tires to make use of those brakes, lowered and stiffened suspension for better cornering and fast reaction to obstacles... All of these things have saved my car and possibly my life several times in the past couple of years, most recently today. Got to level the playing field when you're putting a 39 year old car out there with all the Camrys and Accords with their ABS and crumple zones...
For Style 1 I'm not trying to say that it should look like it just rolled out the factory doors or has to be built with just 70's technology. It could have brake and steering upgrades, preformance suspension, or whatever, but just as long as its keeping a vintage muscle car look, I just mean you dont see many guys who are trying to capture that look putting on 16 or 17in new-aged rims and lowering the suspension. Maybe I shoud have put a 4th option also and have it been "original" looking cars.
Ah, in that case I'm just a few lug nuts from going either way... We've already got a poll about wheels: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=39347
I would like to propose a style #4, which I would call Sleeper or Restomod. Mine is an LDO, strickly stock on the outside, with the exception of 15" Cragar SS's. On the inside it has a 421 in. Windsor, a beefed C4, and a 9 inch Tractionlock with 3.50 gears. I run low 13's through the mufflers. Walk softly and carry a big stick. Also, too much horsepower is never enough. Lee Richart
I wouldnt kick any of them out of bed, but I like #1. #3 is sweet to, but just looks plain to me. #1 just looks fast! Solid "mucsle car" look all the way. Thats the point to all this right? Haulin ass! lol
