I have a bit of work to get done to get my 1971 mav. grabber on the road.

I was wondering if its worth it to find and get a powersteering pump installed or find a center link and put it back to hard arm steering.

Any opinions? Has someone done the power steering up grade can there be complications with the install I am not aware of?

Also other than ebay can anyone suggest where to find parts I'm on the west coast of Canada.

    Thanks.

i took the ...power assist..off my car and left the steering box...
it depends on who you talk to to what will be suggested...i liked mine. to me it isn't...hard arm steering...
have you driven your car with either steering setup?
how many miles a year are you planning on driving...i think mine averaged at least...one oil spot per drive...

I have PS on my 70. Real easy to steer. especially at lower speeds. I don't plan on changing any of my others. Not sure it would be worth it. Shouldn't be too hard if you find all the stock parts.:)

Keep it old school. Manual brakes + manual steering = a car that no one wants to drive but you.

Took my ps off and left the ps gear box. Not too bad steering. I only drive it 1000 miles a year at most though. jmo

I'm in Vancouver commercial Drive area. Do you have a shop? Sell parts?

I need the cener link as well as a few cosmetic things for my 71 mav. If you do have a shop do you have a website I can check out?

What kind of exhaust system do you have on you're Mav?

Welcome from Florida,,,,, My 74 has power steering box w/all power deleted not to bad, Parking is hard some times. On my 71 I'm going to go with manual steering. As for parts MeanMaverick,Mavahaulic and I'm sure a bunch more on this site have the parts you need... Watch the parts for sale section on this site, and list what you want in the parts wanted section....

I have not driven this car with either steering set up. It has not been really driven since it was pulled out of the junk yard 3 years ago.
It has not been insured for more than 15 years from what I understand.
It's kinda' a frankenstein car with the engine from another Mav.

Don't forget tires are gonna have a lot to do with it. If you run skinny tires up front and keep the pressure up, I think manual would feel just fine. Even manual with the tighter power steering gearbox. If you run 235's on the front like I do, you're gonna want power steering, especially if it's a driver.
