ok, i know its not a mav, but its a ford, and you guys are experts at this so i'd come to you anyday before i'd go to a mechanic around here. Ok, Details: 1991 Ford Taurus GL 4 door sedan 3.6 litre V6 Front wheel drive Mom's car Problem: Car hesitates SEVERELY, will not move until pedal is fully to the ground, then slowly goes, and will not shift out of first. We put 6 quarts of tranny fluid in it and it still won't go. There are no leaks surprisingly and we are pretty sure the gears aren't stripped. I think mom likes to nuetral bomb Any advice//suggestions would be great! thankS!!
if it was mine, I'd pull the pan & have a look-see. I bet you'll find all sorts of junk in there. Go ahead & change the filter too. Not that hard to do, and if you get real lucky, the filter may be clogged, causing exactly what you describe. Will it drive in reverse OK?
Your trans is electricly operated. Have someone check it out with a scan tool. Sounds like fluid is being allowed to move. A solinoid may be bad
You'll never stop putting transmissions in that thing. If you can manage to get it driveable again without dumping a pile of cash in it, your next custom installation should be a for sale sign in each window. Just my opinion, but it's pretty common for a Taurus of that vintage to be on its third or fourth transmission.
all belts are good, its definetly the trans. I heard a lot of things about the solinoid. I'll try to go get that checked. And if this helps, when you rev up to move, there is a sloshing sound in the engine bay, maybe fluid?
had a van they wanted $2500 to fix. i put a bottle of " trans medic" in and let someone else hold it. i saw it about 8 mo. later and the lady said she loved the van. i came home and put a bottle in the mav...frank...:bananaman :bananaman
I had a couple of those cars....the tranny went out in both of them. One car went thru two trannies this is normal for these. There is a fix out there from ford...some kit that will fix the problem but not sure what it is. I would just dump the car...quickly.
HAHAHAHA. . That hit me funny for some reason (It could be the 2nd margarita), but I just had a recollection of me and my buddy at the age of 16 drifting his moms 74 Olds Omega backwards downhill on a little country road and doing (I always heard it called a neutral drop) into Low1. It would leave a funny looking cursive "s" shaped donut on the road as the car was still moving backwards with the right rear tire blowing plumes of smoke before it caught and finally started moving forwards back up the hill. Surprisingly that car put up with his abuse for several years. I wonder if an electronic controlled car and trans would let you do that now? HUMMM? Anyone planning on a rental soon. Cleaver
