Was heading to the store with my 13 yr old son and he says, "Dad, you know I've only got two more years before I need to learn to drive. I think I would like to have a blue Comet with white interior." I guess I better get the other 72 Comet out of the garage when the weather breaks and get started on his car.
Well the kids got good taste. Funny how kids like these old cars. My daughters (13&15) love the old Mav. and jump at a chance to fire it up and go for a drive. My oldest thought she would be able to drive it next year. I hated to tell her my insurance states 10 years experience. Guess we'll have to hit some back roads.
My daughter has had good taste in vehicles too as she will get our Trans Am as part of her inheritance and probably will take the Maverick too. I'm proud to have a daughter that appreciates cool cars. Bruce
My oldest daughter, thinks she has her own Maverick.....she's claimed the one I'm working on now, as hers......but she's also informed me that a Focus would be nice...she's only 15.
Buy her a Focus and let her drive your Mavs. I had a little 5sp Focus as a rental. What a fun little car.
Yeah my dad is the reason why i got a maverick he had one back in the day with a 400m. I will stick with a 347.
I felt the same way when my son said he wanted a Maverick. We are doing a complete restoration on his 73 Grabber now, in the process of putting it all back together. I felt the same way when my nephew indicated he wanted one. We now have a 72 Grabber for him. The only sad thing is mine sits while I work on my sons . Mine is set to come in the garage next though. I still get the joy of buying parts for mine while it sits . Allen Small
same with me, my dad call me and says "i just bought you a 1971 maverick grabber for your car" and ive loved it ever since
my grand daughter is turning 11 today. she has already informed me that the grabber is hers no questions asked.
My oldest daughter 12,( looks 16) has claimed my '73 as hers when she hits 16. I told her, if she is still interested in a car such as the '73, by the time she turns 16, it's hers. I told her I was contimplating putting a t-5 in it, and know she wants it even more. She wants me to teach her how to run the '75 at the dragstrip. I gotta feeling all of that will change by the time boys set in. She assures me right now, "that will not happen".
I made the same statement to my grand daughter. she told me no one not even her mom would get to drive her grabber( already calling it hers). she is a straight A student, so i told her if she stays on this path the car is hers. this way she stays interested in her grades and the car-NOT BOY'S!
My daughter had her eye set on my 70 Mustang, but her grandfather recently passed on and left her his restored 42 Ford 1/2 ton pickup. It's got a 302 4spd in it. She's looking forward to the day of being able to drive it. The interesting thing is that they all want their cars to be Grabber blue. I wouldn't mind it so much, but my 71 Comet is Grabber Blue as well as my 70 Mustang. Her grandfather painted the 42 grabber blue as well. I guess it will just keep the cost of touch up paint down.....
My 6 yo grandson spotted a pair of Comet taillights that I have stashed in the garage. They are painted that bright yellow-orange factory color. He wants us to build him a Comet in that color, so I guess we are starting from the back and working forward. I have had him "help" me on some projects. It is fun as far as a 6 year old's attention span goes. Got to be things that can be done pretty quickly. He had the hardest time understanding that the car needs to come further apart before going back together. He just wants me to git-er-done so we can go for a ride.
