Pulling engine out. Which is easier: engine alone, or with transmission attached?

I have never pulled both out together.

I have the option to do either/or, and if one is easier, I will definitely do that one.

If I pull the engine only, I will be FORCED to swap out converters before I reassemble...:biglaugh:

Pull it all together, it's much easier.

    OK.

And thanks for the picture...it shows a good mounting point.

Can I do it alone, or do I need a second pair of hands?

I just took it for the last drive ever, with manual steering. Wife and I took it around the neighborhood, and just warmed it up a little. Next drive might feel a little different...:D

Put it back into the garage backwards, so I have better access to the front end while I start cutting all that old manual stuff and shock towers out!!!:yahoo:

Pull it all together, but be ready for a flood of transmission fluid unless you have a spare yoke or plug to put in!

I used one of those carb plates when I R&R the 460 in the motor home. I figure if one of those will hold a 460, then a 302 will be a piece of cake.....

Yeah, in the past, I just left the yoke duct taped in, and disconnected at the u-joint. Duct tape around the joint to hold all the caps and bearings in.

Pull them together but be prepared to stand it on end to clear the radiator support.

I use a floor jack with the handle pointed to the rear of the car to catch the tail shaft and roll it back as the engine tilts into place.

There's a lot less jumping up and down if you can have a helper under the car manipulating the floor jack and watching how things are going down there.

For the "Northeners" I use a Tim Hortons cup on the transmission to stop the fluid flow...
It's nice to have someone help you, since Mavericks can be tricky...

I pulled my 200/C4 out of my parts car and put it back in my other Maverick all by myself. Pulled all at once as well.

The V8, I am sure, is a bit tighter. I have pulled and replaced it twice, and had help. I think I could do it myself, and I hooked up the transmission myself.

But both together, not so sure.

I've done it myself, but it's always nice to have a second set of hands, just in case.
My engine hoist always hit the lower control arms, with the weight of the engine in the car, so I put a piece of 2X4 under each front tire, to give me some added height.
Just get that engine out ASAP!! and get going on that front suspension!! I'm holding off ordering mine till I finish the body work on my car, but this may push me over the edge...

Good to know... Been many years since I pulled an engine. I may have to do mine this year.

You can do it by yourself, or have a second person to at least take pictures. :D

that...leveler...is a must...and extend the arm on the hoist before you pick the engine up...:yup:
I find it easier to roll the car back from under the engine...less rocking of the motor/transmission.
