Went to the local salvage yard today. This place has over 1300 cars of pre 90 vintage, mostly 70 and 80's with some older than that. Needed a manual brake adapter plate and steering rack for a fox body we are building. In the past have purchased several Mav's there but none have showed up lately to grace the land. Found a 79 Capri with said parts I needed and after dismantelling them heard a strange sound over the hill. On further investigation discovered the source"The CAR CRUSHER DEVIL MACHINE" The lifeless bodies of some fine old Ford cars were being completely anililated in its jaws. Asked the owner why? He said he had to pay some bills and reduce inventory, besides not many people are buying parts for those old machines anymore.

Just had to vent some frustration here and let everyone else know that we old gear heads and mechanecks are slowly being phased out. Yes, the new vehicles are nice and reliable but is there not an ounce of dignity left for these cars of old? Sorry to ramble but it seems that progress has dealt us a death card and I for one don't want to give in to the rice burners etc. no matter how good they are. The whole thing sucks.

Guys, I agree wholeheartedly! I myself was in the middle of the state of MO, and say a flatbed trailer with late 50's and early 60's big cars like caddys and buicks.. I bout cried.

It is very sad, it is only a matter of years before parts will literally be non existant for old cars.

However, your statement about rice cars no matter how good they are is a little off imo.

They are NOT good. with the exception of a few handful, the evo 8, the suburu wrx, and nissan 350z, and supra, the rice cars are just not worth it.

My brother tried like hell to race out a 96 civic. We argued for YEARS how it just wasn't worth it, and he told me to go eat it with my arcaic mustang and maverick, and that it was all about the newer cars.

Well, he woke up one day. He started reading about rear drive vs front drive cars, and it all came together, that it just wasn't financially possibly for the average joe to turn out an 11 second japanese car. You have to have serious $$$ nowadays to do a real nice japanese carthat is not all rice (looks without go-power), otherwise, all you have is "rice" without the go fast goodies.

I suggest a mav first, and he almost got one, but finally decided he wanted something newer and computerized, so he got a mustang of all cars, that he used to make fun of, now he is happy as hell.

Moral of the story. It is only a matter of time until todays generation wakes up and realizes what it is with old cars, I see it slowly happening already, but by the time people come around, I fear it will be too late.

I've lamented the senseless destruction of old cars on several threads here, so I'll try to avoid being redundant, but what a waste! Anyway Lightning, just out of curiosity, what steel mill do you work at?

Jeremy I have to agree with you to me and my friends 350z's are a joke. I think I lost respect for them when my friend beat one with his near stock Neon. Ouch Nissan...ouch.

one of the mustang boards I go to. Www.foureyedpride.com

has gone so far as to have a policy that does not allow the sale of parts cars, or cars being parted out.

They are sick of the senseless destruction that many people do to cars just for profit. While this is definetly not true in ALL cases, they do have a point.

That also creates a shortage or parts though, oh well, can't win

Lightning - Yes I am a Moosejavian. I was just curious about your place of work because my father-in-law and brother-in-law work at Shaw Pipe Protection, so as it turns out, I guess they coat the pipe that you guys make over there. So do I assume correctly that Ipsco's main source of wrecked vehicles would be Buck's Auto Parts?

I'm all for parts-cars if they're wrecked or rusted. Without parts-cars, some of the nice restorations you see wouldn't exist...
