What does it entail to remove the molding on the side of the car where the vinyl top stops...I removed my top as you guys know, and now there is the molding issue...If I pull it off, do I have to weld up some holes or something...What did you guys (if any) do in this situation
I removed the top, see previous posts, and just pried the molding off with a screwdriver (carefully, since I figured someone else would want the chrome). Grind or cut off the rivets that hold the chrome trim. I used a Drimel with a cutter disk, then sanded flat, fiberglassed any uneven surfaces. Primer gray to this day. If you weld, that would be better than fiberglass, but I don't have one. Wish I did.
The molding on the full vinyl roof is bolted on. You'll have to go through the headliner to get at the nuts.
Hey Holic, How hard is removing the headliner, and putting it back in? I never thought of doing that. I just cut the little bolts and ground them flat.
Also, how much for a "cheap" welder. We are talking mig here, aren't we? I have a couple of spots that I don't want to glass up, but want to replace the area with new metal.
I just bought a new mig from a local welding shop for $286. Shop around and you can find a good deal on them. They have come down drastically in the last few years.
I have done a bit of arc welding, but never with a mig. Is it hard to learn? It seems like it must be pretty easy since most people use them even on jobs that would be better of with a rod.
