ok guys, got the 77 mav home and getting it ready for the road, did you have to go to a custom stereo place or could you install a modern stereo yourself with some sort of backing plate to fill the old giant am/fm void

i've been thinking about a custom install thats kinda hidden away because i like the look of the old AM in there and i am pretty tired of listening to the news on the way to school and back :biglaugh:

i've also thought about putting in a Granada console with the sterio in one of the trays on it :thumbs2:

should be simple to install yourself though

I'm 30, is that still young?

I did it myself, wasn't too hard. It's very simple wiring. But. . . . I should say I'm not too happy with my install even though everything went in fine it doesn't sound too great. With a car having so muh metal you really gotta put some sort of sound-dampening material and tighten up the panel or anything loose.
