hello all. My comet threw a wheel, hub and all, while being towed behind my truck (it was ugly) and the driver side spindle is shot. My local u-pull has a 74 maverick with front drums and my vehicle is a 71 comet with front disk. My question is are these two spindles the same between drum and disk? Thanks folks vince
yeah, pretty jacked up. This car likely hasn't run in years and I had it on a towbar bringing it from central texas to colorado. I was turning out of a gas station and the entire wheel assembly separated and was hanging on by the brake hose. Needless to say, the entire wheel bearing area was trashed and the spindle is scored beyond repair. I figured it was a different spindle, but I was hoping to get lucky. Thanks
honestly, i don't know. I've always owned Mavericks and don't have much experience with the Mercury side of things. Generally, the Comet seemed to be a few years ahead of the Maverick as far as options went so I didn't think anything of it. Looks pretty stock to me though.
Mechanically the same. The '71 Comet did not have disc brakes from the factory. Someone retrofitted it, very possibly with a later model Mav/Comet disc setup.
