My carb was leaking and the spacer doohicky was burned out. I removed the spacer and it then ran poorly and surged. So...I rebuilt the 2100 Motorcraft. Then I filled in the burned cavity in the spacer with steel putty and filed it smooth and even. Everything is hooked up and it will idle but as soon as you hit the gas it stalls. The gas in it is poor at best having sat all winter but it still runs. Starts up with starting fluid immediately. Idles at 8-900 steady and without a skip. Touch the gas and it cuts off. The large valve thing on the spacer should have a hose running from it to the...?
Ya know I dont know. I looked in while I moved the lever but didnt see anything. It is stiff to pump. I replaced the orange diaphragm.
You should be able to see it squirt. Do this with engine OFF, . And the linkage is hooked up to the accel pump right? And check for vacuum leaks. Spray carb clean around the base of the card while its running, it it chages engine speed then there is a vacuum leak where you sprayed. Brake cleaner may be better to use, it won't eat the paint like carb cleaner does and is still flammable.
My engine is original and grimy so no paint. I dont think the accelerator pump is pumping. It is very stiff and takes a second to ease back when pulled. I bet that detent ball is doing it. IDK but its making me irritated. Ill add 5 gallons of good midgrade tomorrow and a splash of octane boost. Then maybe I can really see whats going on. Cars dont like to run properly on varnished gas.
use the varnished gas to light garbage and make pipe bombs, and run clean gas in the car. That varnish will just un-clean your freshly cleaned carb.
The carb had dust in it! It was severely in need of a rebuild. I may just go get another one somewhere. Motorcraft 2100s are fine carbs though. I am unsure how to tune the carb, it has instructions but I just want it to work with no effort so I didnt look at them. Plus the instructions blew away. The spacer beneath it has a valve on the back with a vacuum line nipple. I have no clue where it goes.
That spacer is for the EGR. You don't have to have a vacuum line on it. Sounds as though the accel pump isn't working. Did you get the spring back on the proper side? May need to take it back off and check it.
