hope it's ok to post it here (it's a chevy), thought it might be interesting Picked up the half finished project for $4,000. Got it dropped off at the shop and the frame looks to have had a lot of work done. The rear end pinion is a little offset so the drive shaft doesn't fit well in the tunnel. There is some wiring done and the engine which we thought was seized up ran like a champ when we tested it. Don't know if the transmission works, it needs a converter. No brakes, no pedals and NO A/C! 1939 truck that's been chopped and channeled and a 1953 truck bed that's been narrowed. The frame is a 1930's chevy that's been boxed and Z'd (don't know what the means, but that's what the dude told me). Started by taking the cab off, took the seats out and gonna start on taking the steering column out to work on the steering and suspension. Don't really know how to tackle this project so Bryant and I are just gonna start into it and the goal is to get it on the road.
nice, that's a really cool project. being one of the rock'n'roll crowd i'm quite familiar with the rat rods. this one seems like a really good place to start!
yea the other guy who owned it did all the hard work, the rest is perhaps more detailed and tedious but I love it, can't wait to get it driving.
Looks cool. I like the quarter elyptical front suspension. Kind of like we did on my friends rat rod. Its different than the rest who just use a buggy spring. Have fun with it.
Hmm old chebby pickup that looks like an awesome candidate to put a 5.0 and a T5 in, espicially where it still says Chevrolet on the tailgate.:evilsmile Or better yet the put one of the best motors of that era in, a flathead ford.
Nice pickup! looks like a lot of fun! I second this, a flat head with a T4 50 trim 300HP! and that's alot for a flathead.
Im pretty sur ethats the seller MAMA. those ar the pics from the sellers house. I dont thin Mo has any of that room there to work on stuff. And Mo must be single with all the money he has dropped into his car, and now this one. I know Id be single if I brought that home.
Ryan, you are good! Yea I'm single and dont think I would get away with my car shenanigans if there was a miss. But, if my mom found out about this truck the look wouldn't be too different.
Nice start! Looks like you will be far ahead of my build! That 8" that you're taking out of your Maverick would make a good rear for the truck. You will probably want to get a different set of headers and run the exhaust down the normal way, those open pipes will get old pretty quick and will attract cops! I would suggest getting a Speedway Motors Street Rod catalog, they have some good info on setting up the steering, as well as the correct parts. They also have the pedal and master cylinder and brackets in a kit to make it easier. I haven't even gotten started on my 36 Dodge yet, it's been just too hot here. Hope to get it on the concrete soon and mock up the motor and tranny, then I can start on the brake pedal assembly and the steering and floors.
do you have a pic of yours? I will definitely look at the catalog. I don't wanna just sink money into this car like I do with the mav. And it is a rat rod after all.
