Hi peeps, got the old gal back from the shot blasters last week and been busy chopping massive sections out and replacing them, however both rear tubs are seriously rotten, i.e. disappeared...

Because of the shape I won't be able to fabricate replacements myself, could I just chop them out and make new square edged complete tubs (tubbed drag car style) or should I try and source replacements and ship them over? Is a pain being in the UK when all the parts are with you guys!!!

Check this out. http://swracecars.com/Files/pdf/CATpg15.PDF S&W Race Cars lists direct fit frame rails. The Maverick shares a part number with 64-73 Mustangs. It probably will take a bit of fab work to put in, but anything will in your situation. $200 for a pair.

But $200 for the pair +shipping is about $170 +shipping more than it would cost me to fab some tubs, just not sure if it will all go back together fairly stock looking (except in the boot) and if the rear seat will go back in.

ive seen people use trailor wheel wells/splash gards to create new tubs. they give you a nice round edge that looks beter than the square edge that you would make.

    Oil drums

Trailer guards sound possible, is there any problem with spot welding them to the rear quarter around the arch- they are normally welded around the flange but I cant think of a reason why they cant just be welded where they meet the sides- apart from possible stone dents in the single skinned bit around the arch...

If that makes any sense

I just bought a set of trailer fenders for my boat trailer. If you get a size close to it they would work great. Mine were 30 bucks each bare metal.

After another quick look tonight the entire arches/wells/tubs (whatever you want to call them) are good for the scrap bin, as the are made from 2 parts, can I get the outer halves on their own so I can mini tub the inners from scratch? Gonna have to get cracking on them soon so need to know if I gotta get some on a boat...

You could buy Mustang ones, and modify them to fit. Maverick ones are not reproduced, and NOS are pretty rare. How bad are they? You might be doing alot of cutting and patching....

They are bog standard, but rotten through on the inside, outside, middle, ends, and patches everywhere else- I think that just about covers it! Haven't got any pics handy.

I have found some steel trailer arches here for £20 odd each which is fine, but I'm just not sure how I would join the outers to the body- as I dont really want to weld them where they meet to the rear quarters :S

I guess I could weld sides onto them and drop them in and weld them around the flange of the rear arches- similar to where they are spot welded as stock?

Sorry the terminology languare barrier doesn't really help :bouncy: If there were plenty of Mavericks over here I would just go chop a whole section out of a decent one! (Or dump mine and get a decent one!)

    edit:

So the green is basically how standard is, the red is what would be easiest to do using a pre-fab steel wheel arch, welding a panel onto it on the inside and welding the other side directly to the rear quarter skin. As the car is being resprayed it doesn't matter about the welds showing through the body but then I would only have 1 skin between the inner and outer arch and could get dented with stonechips? The other option is to weld a panel on both sides of the new arch (adding the blue line) and weld it on where the original is.

    If that makes ANY sense?!

Thats what I'm talkin about! But dont want to wait weeks for shipping- though I do have plenty of other patches to weld in... just sent them an email so see what they say about shipping.

Though- if I'm gonna have stuff shipped over anyway what are the odds that someone could cut some good ones out of another Maverick and ship them to me instead? I'm not after silly wide wheels on the rear so standard tubs will be fine...

Not the best pic (uploaded the wrong ones) but it still shows the problem!
