I apologize if this has been asked before, but I need help finding the right brake drums for my project. I have a '74 comet. I swapped in a '57 nine inch rear. I simply bolted the existing backing plate/brake assembly onto the nine inch rear. However, the '57 axles have smaller ends, so my original drums do not locate on the axle ends. Is there a drum available that is the same dimentions as my original drums, but that would fit the smaller ends of the '57 axles???

73 drums have a smaller hole, but I don't know the size.

I read an article a few years ago about the wide array of different drums for Ford rears and there were a lot of different sizes depending on the application...(I'll try to dig it up), that said, I don't have an answer to your question. I also have a '57 9 inch that I'm planning on swapping in my Comet so I'm very interested in the answer to your question....

The best thing you could do is upgrade to brakes that are more modern than what the 57's had. The one I had, had oddball 11 x 1.5 inch brakes.
