I'm going to be changing the gears on both of my comets and need help deciding which ones to get. They both have 8" rear ends, one has a T5 and the other a C4. They both see highway miles but I get on it around town a lot too. What are some good gear ratios and what will they do to my top end? Thanks a lot for your time.

Wow. this is a common question. My suggestion is do a search.

My answer is 3.80 is too low for highway, so go with 3.55. Unless you are running HUGE rear tires.

Or if only highway, and no racing, stick with the stock 2.79.

I pretty much agree, on the C4, if moslty used on highway stay w/ 2.79. On the T5 I wud go w/ something like the 3.80 for gud all-around driving.
If using for mostly racing and short cruises then I step into 4-series gearing.

I have 3.89's in my 9" with a T-5 it runs about 1800 rpm at 60 mph with 255/60/15 rear wheels.I don't think thats bad.

i like to put 3.25s in cars with a c4 that do freeway driving. i did this on mashori's car when he had a c4 and he loved it.
i would put 3.80s in the car with that t5. thats what i had in mine and it was perfect. i got great mileage and awesome acceleration

I run a 3.50 with a T5 and I love it. I don't generally drag race tho but it's perfect around town and easy on gas when I hit the HWY.
