OK - I'm not following? What cover?

8" has a removable carrier, no cover?

    :hmmm:

If you are pulling the carrier out you need to pull out both axles - they are held in with 4 tee shaped bolts at the axle flange by the brakes.

    :)

i had rear end problems if it is suppose to just slide out im in a world of hurt lol. idk how to repair the rear end once i get it out. my plan was to replace the seal and new fluid and hit the road. now its a project car got engine out. now i want to make the rear end right something is bent or broken. turns rough about a 1/4 then free turning the rest. like a warped rotor.

This is for 8" and 9" rears:
Ok - to pull the axles - once you have the 4 bolts out that hold the brakes and axle onto the flange removed - put the brake drum back onto the wheel studs backwards and put on 2 or 3 of the lug nuts flat side towards backwards drum - put them on flush with the stud end not all the way tight - and use the drum as a slide hammer to pop the axle from the housing. You can now pull the complete third member (pumpkin).

you only have to pull the axles out about 6-8", that should be enough to get the chunk out...:yup:

note...there are...crush washers...around the bolts that are a witch to get off for the first time...

i have no clue what is wrong with the rear end it just made a weird noise going about 60 to 80 on the high way and has been leaking since i bought the car in 2007. i am in the process of an engine swap. so its not a rush to fix. should i take the parts i take out of the rear end to someone to get checked or should i get the right gears i want. any input will help. oh yeah and its a pain in the but to slide hammer the axles with the drum. i gave it a break i think i got like 1/2 inch on both sides hahaha

if you change the gear ratio you can have a new bearing kit installed at the same time...:yup:
do you know what ratio you have now?
