I was wondering if anybody knew what rear end would be a direect bolt in to the maverick. I have a 71 ford maverick and I am wanting a 9" with disc brakes. Thanks Kevin billings 1970 maverick 1971 Maverick
Sorry,, no direct bolt in for disc brakes. I used a 64 tbird rearend and had it cut to fit. Used Strange components with Explorer rear disc setup. Dan
Lincoln Versilles had a 9" with discs. It is a direct bolt in. However, it is slightly wider overall than stock. So close attention to wheel measurements is needed. The Granada/Monarch was also available with the same rear, only a little narrower, which makes it a closer fit, but still not as narrow as ours. Also, this was only an option in these models, so they are rare. They all have the same 5 lug bolt pattern as 5 lug Mavs, they all have the same spring pad spacing, they all bolt in. It is just the slight pushing out of the wheels that is different. If you have stock rims, it shouldn't matter. Aftermarket rims though will need more backspacing than usual. Dave
there is a kit out to put disk on a 8 inch rear.. seen it in the mustang and fords or one of them mags....
There are some later Fords with 8.8" rears that the brakes can be bolted to 8" and 9" rears. The Exploder discs can be put on a 'Torino bearing' 9", while the Crown Vic discs supposedly fit 8" rears. I have a set of Victoria discs waiting, but have not tried them yet... I got the idea from stangnet, several guys over there have converted 8s and 9s. Dave
i just found one in a 72 mav he says he thinks it is a 3:08 ratio but he wants to sell the whole car v8 c-4 any ideas what the rearend is worth it will help me decide if i want to tow it home and part out floors gone so i'm sure the cowl is shot too much work with my other project still hanging thanks Ron
If you could find one, an early Mustang, 60's era, had a bolt in 9in for the Mav. Drum brakes on it though. Make sure that 72 that is supposed to be a 9in is actually one and not an 8in. Unless the man installed a 9in in it, probably is a factory 8. Just don't want you to get ripped off.
i dont know much about them but he said 60 era rear ends so would this bolt right in? http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=CUR%2DFDM6466&N=4294908331+4294908282+4294924707+115&autoview=sku
For the same money, they will build the exact rear you want. The info in this thread is more for someone who has access to something bolt in that is close, but not exact... If you got the dough for a Currie, their is no question you will get the right part. Dave Edit: Summit has a page on it's site with a link to their supplier's web sites and lists contact info as well. Go through that to get in touch with Currie by email or phone. Talk to them, and ask them the part number for a Maverick 9" rear the way you want. Then call Summit customer service and tell them what you did and give them the part number they made for your rear. Then ask if you can have that part number for the same price, or less, than the Stang rear. They will tell you the price right then and order it for you if you got the 'plastic' in hand. OR I have done this before: Call Summit cust svc and have them conference call with Currie while you are on the line and Currie will give them the part number. Then Summit will give them an order number to build it, then will drop Currie off the line to get your payment. They have done this for me on my Dana 60 rear with Richmond and Superior Gear to get me the special order parts not listed on Summit's site. Dave
