It's past time for some new rear leaf springs, but they aren't available at the parts stores. Does anyone know if there is a way to convert it to coil springs or if there is a different type of car I could get the leaf springs off of? I kind of want some performance type springs. I found some springs for a 64-73 Mustang. Any advise is appreciated.
Espo Has Maverick springs in both 3 leaf and 4 leaf. The 4 leaf really raise the back of the car. I had a set of 4 leafs delivered to my door for about $120. Excellent fit & quality. http://www.springsnthings.com/
Mavaholic Thanks for the useful information! Question: What kind of ride are you getting out of your 4 leaf springs vs. your 3 leaf spring setup? Pros? Cons?
The advantage is a much more firm ride. The disadvantage is it does lift the rear pretty far. I have 1" lowering blocks, 255/60/15 tires and Its still to high for my taste.
Reversing the rear eye would definately help but I'm sure custom springs are $$$$. The Caltracs do not add any lift.
I have the J C Whitney 4-leafs on mine. Firmed up the ride nicely, got rid of a really severe wheel hop (I don't even need traction bars), and didn't add much height.
How much difference is there between the Mustang rear leaf springs and the Maverick? Are they longer/shorter? Just curious if anyone had tried. -Corbin
My spring experience... Probably doesn't apply to the discussion, but is related... I got a brand new set of custom springs made by Riteway Springs in Tacoma, WA. They installed them for me and everything. They're four-leaf, made of a stronger steel than stock and have what they call a "rebound leaf" that works kind of like a traction bar. Costed about $500. I wanted multipurpose springs that would be good for hauling stuff and for fast driving. So far, I've piled about 1000 lbs (no kidding) of gear in and on the Mav for one of my cross-country moves and my rear end dropped maybe .5 inches. Remarkable, I think! Yours, Atzy.
got the ones for JC Wit... just had them re-arched so i didn't have to use a lowering block. they were fine.
