Anybody removed the air cond and compressor (damn that thing is huge) I don't use air and am contlempating on removing it? Also I guess I would need new pulleys?
easy to do just unbolt it you don't need new pulleys on the v8 or the 73 (can't speak for anything below that.. sorry) ... and up i6s you'll just have one empty v grove on the crank pulley.
On the leagal side, its about a $20,000 fine to vent freon into the air and a friend can collect half of that for turning you in. So if there is any charged left in the system you either need to have it recovered by a shop or unbolt everything in the dead of night when nobody is around just in case.
Well it is competly empty, Had a friend that is a prof. check it so not worried about that. Is it worth it does it help? Tks
Between all the bracketry and compressor itself, you will loose alot of weight on the front end of the car. Less weight is almost always helpful. Improves gas milage, accelerates better, handles better, although I"m not sure how much of this you will actually notice. Probably about the only thing you'll notice is how much easier it is to work on the motor.
So when removing all the stuff Is there anything I need special ie: plug anything up stuff like that? Thanks for all your help
If your never going to use the air in it again then you dont have too worry about plugging up the evaporator since that will be about the only thing you wont be removing. The wire going to the compressor clutch should be properly isolated. Thats about all I can think of.
Sure but the heater controls are all run by vacuuum so make sure you leave the reservoir can and lines intact.
