So I gotta get all these old gaskets off my block now. Whats my best bet to get them off without damaging the surfaces, mainly the head gasket.

a single edge razor blade, a wire brush, wd40, scotch bright pad, 400 grit sandpaper, goo-gone, gasoline, terpentine, paint thinner

any of these items will help you out and i have used all of them at times. just take your time, do not use screwdrivers if you can avoid them.. dont use a hammer, and be VERY CAREFUL with paint scrapers..

take your time.. its not a race

Permatex puts out a gasket remover in the form of a spray liquid that works great...I would still recommend the aid of a scrapper-blade.....either way,the new seal is as good as the parts are cleaned.......

If you have a compressor, get a right angle grinder and some of those scotch bright rol-lock disc. It dosent get any easier than that.

I use an old wood chisel then wipe the metal down with acetone.
