Hi im new here and im wondering what kind of setup should I go with in my 72 Maverick? Some people say 4-link rear setup since it will allow more body roll more than ladder bar, but I really dont know much about american cars like that, im new to this whole thing. I recently had Mazdas and Hondas to road race but now im really into more muscle cars and would like to road race in one. Its alot easier to build a Honda for road race, just slap some expensive coilovers, sway bars, and roll bar and your good to go, but im really tired of the same thing, want to have a Maverick out on the track. Now im not looking for some crazy expensive setup, and im also not looking to be a champ in lemans series, just looking for a nice setup that is adjustable rear coilovers, like ride height and stiffness. Im not a hardcore racer but I really do enjoy going to Sebring when there is events and just have fun. Now I have ordered AQ1 front coilovers to bolt onto all my factory suspension, just need to work on the rear now. What rear setup would you recomend? I have a few fab shops out here that can fab something up for me but they say that they do more drag race setups than road race, they told me ask around and see what people use in these cars befor fabing something up that isn't going to work well. Here is my Maverick as it sits right now, planning to go with some CCW wheels since I do live in Orlando. FL and Daytona is like 45min away from my house. Thanks for looking and thanks for all your help in advance
check out this thread http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=54307 that is one really good option to try. also look at global west suspension. a good set of custom leaf springs with there delalum bushings would work really well. add a rear anti swaybar and maybe even a watslink and you will have a really good rear suspension.
ok well I called that company TIC or TCI I think it is and they said that the kit they sell is manly for a mustang and they said they dont know if it'll work for a maverick, its the 3 link kit any suggestions?
if you read further through that post you will see that they had to modify the kit to work with a maverick.
I used 3 link set ups in my pavement stock cars. One thing that you may want to look into is a Watts Linkage set up. 3 links need a panhard bar , to locate the rear in the chassis, which causes rear steer, as it goes up and down, where as a Watts Linkage will not. Best set up for going left and right. Even though we only turned left with our cars, I used a Watts in my last car and the driver said it was the most stable car he ever drove. I got the idea from the cars that run the road courses in the Austrailian Supercar Series. It impressed me so much that I'm using one in my Maverick to locate my 4 link 9 inch rear. It will be mounted behind the rear, not like in the stock car photo.
Very nice car. I wouldn't mess with anything cosmetic, at all. I use a droid. Gotta download that app! Sorry, I have no feedback on the suspension. Just enjoying your pictures!
so how I go about doing that? what webiste can I go to? And does this require alot of fabrication or is it more bolt on? sorry for dumb questions its just im lost when it comes to this, im fresh meat to all of this
If you Google "Watts Link Suspension" you will come up with a ton of links on the subject. Check out the You Tube videos of set ups in action too. You can buy a complete set up that mounts behind the rear from established suspension builders but if you have some fabricating skills, you can make a pretty good set up yourself. The first photo is a rear mount that needs it's own crossmember and connects to either side of the rear. The second photo is a front type that pivots on a bracket bolted to the center section and uses solid connections on either frame rail.
I've been contemplating the road race maverick myself,I'm currently running a bmw 325i, and doing some on track instructing.I was thinking about a 1999 svt cobra independent rearend setup. However since the maverick frame and suspension shares so many parts with the 68/69-73 mustang it seem that buying off the shelf comp parts for a mustang should work on a maverick. I did a ride along with a Rolex Series driver in a 69 camaro and it was a blast! Please keep us posted on the progress of your project.
