I have a set of Roush 200 heads I bought for the 351 in my 65 Ford short box PU but never got around to installing, so after looking at these things sitting on my parts shelves for a few years I was thinking about building a stroker motor for the Mav and using these heads. I did a search and I see some of you guys have them and are having plug wire problems, is it just an annoyance or such a large problem that you would recommend not using them at all? I have a nice 302 with ported GT-40 heads, comp 270S cam, Crane Gold race rockers, Eagle rods, forged pistons, Air Gap intake, and a 650DP carb sitting on one of my engine stands. I built this for my 69.5 Mav but I keep looking at these damn roush heads and thinking I should do something with them. So how 'bout it, should I put 'em on the Mav, or shine 'em up an put 'em on the coffee table?

Use short plugs and a 90 degree boot on cylinder 7 and you will be fine. The rest oif the wires clear ok I did add some kevlar sleeves to be safe.

Thanks 1badmav. I see that you have yours on a 302, does it run ok at lower RPM's with those 200cc ports?

Runs fine. I only have a set of 3.00s gears at the moment so it is a little soggy but typically I run 3.80s and it runs the way it is suppose too. :D

Well technically I have the elite hedmans. But I imagine they are very similiar. The angle on the plugs is the main issue. I kept burning number 7. I went through at least 6 sets of wires in a matter of a 2 mth period.

Well, I got my headers today, rushed right out to the shop and bolted them on the Roush heads. I see why you guys have burnt wires. The 90 boot and short plug look like they would help, but, since I'm not going to race this car anyway I think I'll just put in the 302 as the 6901's fit the GT-40 heads very well. Thanks for the comments, but I think I'll just build a new motor for my truck. These heads should do well on a 351.

Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P
i must have missed this one

i would sitck with what you have

7 and 8 will hit and don't forget about how your gonna tighten the spark pulg too. thing about it. i should know i have those heads.

i do know someone with a maverick with dynomax headers. WLK-85112 they do not say they will fit maverick only mustang , fairlane and cougar . They do fit. The only sparkplug boot that is very close is number 7 seven and some might want to ding it (personally i wouldn't). you can get to 8 alot better the the hookers. The only compalint he had was because the primary tubes are
1 1/2 inch not 1 5/8... they do have a 3 inch collector well most do.
