Help! Found a small spot inside the trunk where rust has gone clear through, just behind the right rear fender well. I am not after a show winning car -- but I would like that rust to stop. Any simple solutions? Thanks in advance, Jim
There's only 1 correct way to fix it. Cut out all the rusted metal and weld in new. Anything else would be a temporary cosmetic fix at best.
So I need to contact a local body place and get their help, as this is not the kind of thing I can do. Is this a few hundred bucks to fix?? Jim
Just to cut and weld a peice in the trunk would probably run a few hundred bucks as long as the rust hole is not too big.
Another option (temporary but inexpensive) would be to grind all the rust off, and patch it with fiberglass and rust preventative paint. POR-15 makes a good fiberglass kit (by temporary I think it might last you a few years). I will be going this route for a couple of my smaller holes.
