Safe way to put in my headers?

Is there a safe way to jack up my 77 Mav to put in the Hookers? I have the front up about 2 feet, but more is required (3' ?). I'm doing this on a gravel drive, and each time I jack it higher, I get real nervous about the rear slipping. Chocks are good, but they have limits too.

I'd hate to have it towed and pay somebody else to finish what I started. Got any safe ideas, or photos of how to do it?

Two feet should be enough. Now jack up the engine about 3 or four inches and you are all set.

 

grant, i know you are using jack stands but put blocks (wooden) under it also. a guy i worked with was putting in a trans. and the car fell off the stands and he was crushed.
if i might suggest putting 3/4 in. plywood under the stands if it is not on cement. that will keep them from digging into the ground. you can't be too safe when under a car...j.m.o....frank...

 

Also - unless absolutely necessary to remove them - leave the wheels on the car ....

long ago i bought a couple of 2"x12" by 12 footers and cut them into 2 foot lengths. i stack however many i need under the front wheels for stability and put jackstands under the rear end. makes for a very stable work situation.

 

if i have to lift the front real high, i also try to lift the rear to keep it level. and i use 6 ton jackstands.

 

dude... if you are on gravel clear a spot in the gravel (for each wheel) and put patio blocks under the tires! then wiggle the hell out of the car to be sure it is stable...

 

OH boy i remember kickin our 75 parts car off the stands what a rush. the headers should go in without lifting the engine at all. just dont worry about scratchin them, theyre gonna rust anyway. dont be a jerk about it either. they really should go in with no unbolting anything, mine did.
