Ideas for the two following problems welcome! Car is a 1974 Mercury Comet: 1. the drivers side visor is missing the metal arm that connects it to the center piece to keep it in place. 2. There are no brake lights -- new bulbs did not change the issue and the wiring looks fine -- I have not put a meter to it yet -- my wife said the housings are broken -- I cannot see that they are. I thought I'd go see what Mavericks (or other old ford/mercury cars) might be laying around in my local salvage yards. Is this a decent plan? Is there anything special I should know? Thanks in advance, Jim
The brake pedal has a light switch you might check and good luck finding any at the junk yards, let us know
Checked the switch Hey Blugene; Second step for me was checking the fuse. That was a damn hard to find box, by the way! This thing uses way old fuses -- very cool! Jim
Fuse Yeah, I twisted my neck all right -- and my spine, and my arm, and my patience! Fuses were all good, wires all looked good -- one bulb was clearly broken but the other looked fine. Wife says the housings are broken. Thought I'd replace with newer ones if I can find something like them at a salvage yard. Jim
The brake light switch is mounted near the top of the brake pedal where it connects to the rod that goes through the firewall. Get a test light or meter. On side of the switch is always hot. The other side switches on with very slight pressure on the brake pedal. If that works, Problem is probably in the turn signal switch.
Courier is busy moving these days One of the best mods I have made for messing under the dash, especially for working on wiring and fuses, is RECLINING BUCKET SEATS!!! Just lay it back, and lay on it with your head under the steering wheel, either on your stomach or back (depending on where you are working). Not comfortable, but better than getting stuck between the bench seat and the steering wheel (very embarrasing having to call the wife out to help wiggle me loose from that position ).
Hey Jim, Go to Autokrafters.com and down load their catalog. They have a bunch of Maverick stuff. Ken
