I just got a pair of high back buckets for $100 but they are dark blue and i was wondering what is a good black dye i can use to paint these seats thanks.
SEM is great and easy to apply as a spray bomb. If you have some skills and your own spray equipment, any auto paint supplier can mix vinyl dyes for you. Prep is everything. Clean, clean, and clean again before using any dyes. Also helps to get the seats out in the sun on a nice day to soften up the vinyl. Make sure to disassemble the seat from the back to get full coverage. I found a nice set of seats at a swap meet that had not been taken a part. When you released the seat to fold it forward you could see the original color in the area that was shielded from the dye.
Excellent response. I have also used SEM products to dye a set of seats red and the results were great. You had to look really hard to tell they had been dyed. I had our paint supplier mix me up about a quart of dye and used a spray gun to apply it to the seats on a warm day. I also used SEM vinyl cleaner and adhesion promoter to insure the dye took really well. But like Acornridgeman said, the seats have to be as clean as possible. That little item can not be stressed enough.
