I took delivery of my 1970 Maverick on 6/18/69. Vin-0X91T139277. I bought a hard back Chilton's "Repair and Tune-up Guide". In this book they list three transmission options: Code 1-3 speed manual, Code V-semi-automatic stick shift and Code W-automatic (C4). The description of the semi-automatic is as follows: It is a manually operated power shift transmission which does not require a clutch pedal. It is similar to the C4 except for changes in the control valve body and that the vacuum diaphragm, throttle rod, governor and the inner and outer downshift lever assemblies have been eliminated. My question for the experts on this forum is: Did they produce any Mavericks with this transmission?
Yes they did! It was sure weird driving them. You basically dropped it into low at a stop sign and shifted up as you drove away. Just like a manual but without the clutch.
In all my years of messing round with Mavericks and parting out a bunch of them, I have only ever seen one.
Yeah never enjoyed a huge fan base and I believe was discontinued after '70 or '71... Anyone know what the cost vs a "normal" C4??? There are a couple picts of the quadrant n the gallery... [/img]
I would be interested to know how many cars came with this option. If anyone ever thinks to ask Kevin Marti, please post the numbers.
