I don't know if there is dimensional data per se on where to cut - "you just know".

Here's how I did mine. Some started closer to the shock itself than I did at the top, but most of us stay 1 to 1-/2" above the A-arm bolt holes.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hey Rick, that's a pretty cool mural you have painted on your shock tower. It almost looks like tool laying around on a shop floor or something. (y)

Ha! I've got a better one where there is a welder's gove laying on the ground. It looks like I cut my hand off! (will look for it when I get home).

I've done 3 and I always shave it to where I only leave 1/2 to 3/4" between the spring and the plate that gets welded in there. Also only leave about 1/2" above the A arm when its in the upper most position.

What thickness is the metal that you weld in place of the cut part?

Since my shock towers are not hairy, I see no need to shave them...

I cut a little deeper than most, and used a little thicker steel (3/16", I think). I just made sure I had a good 1/2" clearance of all moving parts and suspension/springs.

just a question about this one, would I have to remove everything down to only shock towers or could I make the cuts and welds with the springs and engine in place?
    thanks

I've never cut towers but there is now way I would try it without removing everything. I really don't see how you could do it anyway. You've got to get in there and do some serious cutting and welding and you've got to have room for that.
