I am going to start creating patch panels for my Mav and would like to know what is the body metal thickness?
    Thanks,

18 to 20 gauge - for the floor I would use the heavier 18 gauge.

The main shell is going to be closer to 20-22.

I just bought 2 quarter panels which are 19 gauge and they are a lot thicker than the original sheet metal on the car.

The shock towers are 18 gauge

Can't believe anyone would take down a "STOP" sign an set up a disasterous collision.

Lowes has an assortment of sheet metal and round and rectangular bars. I believe I've seen 18 gauge there, not sure about 16 gauge.

Depending on what your working on, 20 gauge works just fine. 16 gauge can be difficult to work with unless you have lots of sheet metal tools. What more important than gauge is going to be the prep work and materials you choose for primers and painting. After all these cars have made it almost 40 years with 20 gauge body panels and laquer paint.

:) mine was an off topic to the thread interest in metal supply. gauntlets and helmets made of 16 get dented anything thinner still gets you smacked....hehe however the thinner stuff is hard to get also when i need it.

Stop signs are too big...get the smaller signs.

The signs in Washington are aluminum or plastic - never steel.
I have to steal galvanized garbage cans to do the body work on my cars - Do you know how rare they are getting? Everything is going plastic!
I may have the first plastic Mavericks on the road.

I've been getting 22ga. and 16ga at Menards for years. They also have 26ga galvanized tho not much use for that on a car. Have seen sizes from 6" X12" to 24" X 36".

any fender or old hood about the came year should be very close the newer you get the thinner the "steel" gets.
