I'm building an injected 302 for my comet. I need some help finding the right headers. I can't really afford to buy new headers. I am leaning toward a set of shorties to avoid any hassle with clutch linkage and/or bellhousing as I'm not sure what tranny I'm gonna use. I dont know what brands will fit between the towers. If anyone has a set they want to get rid of, let me know. And, if anyone happens to run accross a set on Ebay that will definately fit, let me know. I wanna get this project done so I can get out there and stomp some rice!!!(y) Thanks

Unless you removed the shock towers and put in a Mustang II suspension there are no Shorty Headers that will fit ...

Well, contrary to many's opinion, some shorty headers will work in Mavs. I put Hedman 88-400 shorty headers on my 73 and they fit in the stock engine bay no problem. The only thing that I had to do was dimple the driver's side exhaust pipe to get full pitman arm movement. Mine is a floor shift automatic. Only a couple others have used the shorties like I did, and they ran into the same dimpling of the exhaust as the only problem. They are not even close to touching the towers. You can buy them new for about $135 for Summit.

I wasn't trying to be a jerk or scold you Dan. :) I didn't even know that the shorties would indeed fit when I bought them - there were no definite answers about fitment when I was in that stage, but I bought them and amazingly they worked out fine. I just bought a set of shorties for my 351W swap. It will be an experiment again like first shorties I bought. They are 88650s and have 1 5/8" primaries and 3" collectors vs the 88400 which is 1 1/2" primaries, and 2 1/2" collectors. I plan on cutting the towers for my 351W swap for plug changing clearance, so I don't know how they will fit with stock towers. I might play with them and set in the 351 before I cut the towers and see if they fit then. We'll see...

Thats probably what I'll go with when I do the Comet motor. Do you have manual or ps? I wonder if that would even make a difference.

I have power steering. I don't think it would make a difference, but who knows... With the power steering, ground clearance issues where I live, and fitment issues with decent sized long tubes, shorties are the best option for me.
