I have a 1972 Ford Maverick Grabber… Yes! A Grabber! I bought it new (from the Ford Dealership) in late 72 or early 73, not sure which. It is truly a ONE OWNER. When it was purchased, it had four (4) miles on it.

The problem is, some time ago I was away from home and while away, someone came in my yard and stole the hood. I know there is a chance I might find one someday, but they raped my car. To me, it’s just not the same car anymore, and never will be. For quite sometime now, the car has just sat here, that’s why I’m considering selling it. To me, it will never be the same car-- not after being raped like it was.

It has a 200 Cubic inch straight six, bored to 30 over at around 150,000 miles. That was many miles ago, yes, it’s a high mileage automobile. It has a three speed manual transmission—‘in the floor’ (factory). It’s white with original paint and yellow & orange factory stripes with black interior. I do have a picture of the car “before” the hood was stolen. Oh, almost forgot. I still have the original hubcaps and trim-rings. The gas cap was stolen years before the hood, since then it was replaced with another one from another Maverick.

Should I sell? If so, what would be a fair price to all considered?

Your feedback would be most appreciated.
    Thank you....

Post some pics .... all we know is that is high mileage and missing the Grabber Hood. You didn't mention the condiition it is in ... Has it been sitting this entire time with no hood on at all out in the weather?

As an original owner of a 72, I'd say your nuts to sell the car. Heck most of the body panels on mine are not original for one reason or another. One hood does not make a car. Plus you will say for the rest of your life," I shouldnt have sold it"

Thank you Mavaholic for your feedback: "As an original owner of a 72, I'd say your nuts to sell the car." & "One hood does not make a car. Plus you will say for the rest of your life," I shouldnt have sold it"

I think you're right. I've personally driven that car enough to go around the planet about ten times.... I think it's a "keeper"....

reply to dmhines: "nope, I have two other hoods and that same night I found the hood had been stolen, one of them was put in place to cover the engine"

I just found this site, it'll take time to post current pictures. All I have at present are 'pre-theft' of the hood. Will do, hopefully before this months' end.

    Thanks for the welcome Blown76Mav

welcome to the board. if you don't really need the money. the car is not costing you anyhting to sit there until you get back into the mood. but you will get back in the mood and probably right after you see someone driving away in it. i'd say keep it.:)

Welcome to the board. :Welcome: As the only owner of your Grabber, you could say the car has become part of your family. Bad things happen to family members, but no matter what, they are still family. If you sell the car, sooner or later it will come back to haunt you. By all means, keep the car. Keep your eye out for another Grabber hood to make it whole again, and when you do, take her out for a spin around the block. As your'e driving it, think back on all the good memories you had with the car. You will soon find out that all the good times will out weigh the bad one.

Welcome, Think hard before you decide to sell your car. I was the orginal owner of my first Maverick Grabber. Selling it was a mistake. Im very lucky to have found the car I have now. Fix your car! Your lucky if all you need is a hood after all this time! If it needs a complete restoration it money well spent. Do not disgard a big part of your life history unless there is no other choice. If you decide you want another Maverick later on this is when the trouble begins. A replacement is just not the same. Good luck!

    Don't Do It!!!!!

I sold my beloved Alice five years ago, and although the new owner has REALLY taken care of her and given her the love and :2cents::2cents::2cents: I couldn't, I REALLY wish it had never come to that. If there's no need to sell your car, don't do it.
