Get yer minds outta da gutter, will ya? What I'm looking for is ideas where to mount my MSD box. The two best/only places I can think of is where the emissions canister used to be on the passenger side near the hood hinge. Or.........if I move the battery to the trunk, I can mount the box in the battery tray area. Anyone got any pics of theirs?
mine is just a little further back and my catch can is toward the front. i've heard it's not great to have them in the engine compartment but i've never had any problems there yet.
Mine is directly behind the intake on the firewall underneath the gutter, water can't get to it, but it's just a 6A,not the 6AL,changing the rev limit chips back there might be a pain though.
I put mine inside the car, passenger side firewall. No one even knows I have one. The coil is there too, right beside it.
MSD is a brand of ignition they make other parts as well ...it's a ignition box the 6 series are High energy multiple spark ..a lot more fire power http://www.msdignition.com/
put mine were the battery used to be. seems to stay fairly cool there. I have even thought of running some plumbing to it (air duct)
Umm..........what does this mean? Hey, maverick5946, that's one hell of a motor mount you've got there. The shock towers look pretty too. What the heck are you runnin' in that thing?
As far as E.T. its went mid 10's.....would be faster with some serious attention to tuning.....and the bigger headers would help to. It does OK for a little small block. I am hoping this summer to get into the low 10's with a good set-up and a decent track on the current set-up. Also had Dave run it on a Desktop Dyno and according to it I am shifting just before it gets to its peak power....gonna spin it a little higher this year and see what comes of it....if it doesn't pick-up then I will go back down the RPM ladder until it starts to slow. Trial and error and test and tune. Thanks.
The shop that installed mine, mounted the MSD and all the other electrical controls (RPM window switch, start retard, EEC, etc) on top and bottom of a piece of plexi-glass and hid it underneath the dash on the passenger's side. It can easily be removed if needed. I simply ran out of room on the inner fender - plus, the electronics would've been right in the way of any water from a broken radiator hose. I also like the idea of the electronics being out of the elements. Sorry, I don't have my camera here to take a pic, but wanted to let you know of that locale.
A catch can is the tubular tank mounted on the radiator shroud. It catches the overflow from the radiator. It is required by most race sanctioning bodies. Seth
