I feel the maverick means more to me so the lightning had to go, it is bitter sweet, hate to see it go but glad to have some bucks for the grabber. I already have all upper engine parts heads, cam, intake, still can not decide on bottom end. 347 5.3 rod 347 5.4 rod 331 or ol 306. What are some thought's?

I think the 331 is the way to go for a street driver!

Go for a 311 and just be aware that next rebuild means a new block.

If you're as budget minded as I am, I'd look into whatever was available at a good price (there are some helluva deals out there).

Otherwise, I'd vote 347 with a ton of Throttle In a Bottle for those 'special occasions'. The 347 can still be rebuilt to 349 easy enough.

i use a program called dyno 2000. you can build engines with what ever specs you want. my engine is a 306 and i havnt acutally put it on a dyno yet but this program says i should make 383hp. if i change to a stroker then i only gain like 5 hp. on the other hand i gain about 20 ft-lbs. get the most bang for your buck! (personally i think theres no substitute for cubic inches)

there is a new version of dyno 2000 that came out last year its dyno 2003 and there are other automotive computer programs that are similar. theres a drag program and a circle track program and various other programs similar to it. the best part is that after you create your virtual engine on the dyno program you can load it on a car you can build to you specs on the drag program. the drag program will give you drag strip specs, both 1/8 and quarter mile times as well as g force upon launch and stuff like that. i got my copy of dyno 2000 from ebay for 10 dollars. new i think the programs as a set are around 250 - 300 from www.motionsoftware.com. have fun i hope ive helped.
