    Hi,

My 1973 Maverick Grabber with 302 V8 stalls when I try to back it up. It stalls on idle sometime too. It stalled at a left turn on Wednesday, and it took 10 minutes for me to get the engine to run long enough to shift from P to D. I charged the battery, but it still stalls on backup. Anyone have any ideas why? :hmmm:

Yup could be Idle speed.could also be running too lean,or you have a float set too low.If It runs just fine, turn the Idle up a bit. With car in gear and a helper with a foot on the brake that is.

    Thanks,

I'm using 91 octane, which is too expensive now. A guy who works on it for me said it would run better on 87. What do you guys think? I'm using 91 because that's what the original owner's manual says to use.

Is the engine stock?no major mods to it?If so then run the cheap stuff it should be fine.Engine only has 8:1 compression ratio. No need for high octane there.

Yes it is stock. It has the emissions stuff on it too. Thanks, that will help save some money!
