My 77 maverick is not wanting to start, i turn the key and sometimes it will start other times i hear just the starter kick in but no engine turn over, i have replaced the solenoid so i know that isnt the issue. Also occasionally when i shut it of it likes to diesel on me. i would appreciate anyones input on what it could be and how i could fix these problems.

If the starter spins but the engine does not turn, then you either have a bad spot on the flywheel/flexplate in which you would hear a grinding sound. If no grinding sound is heard then it would likely be a bad bendix in the starter.

Dieseling is usually caused by a higher than normal idle speed when the engine is turned off. Check the engine speed settings before making any changes to correct this.
