Starting problems HELP

    I have a 75 mav 2 dr and lately when i go to start it it doesnt start first time and you hear a pretty loud grinding sound. Do i need to replace the starter? And if i replace the starter should i replace the alternator as well? HELP ASAP PLEASE:bowdown: thanks!!!

    1972 Maverick 2 door.Original V-8 3 spd std shift.Also a 72 one owner Sprint sporting a 351 Windsor
    Sounds like you have a weak starter (not engageing the flywheel completely)hence the grinding sound...Or you hava a dead spot on the flywheel or alack of proper voltage to the starter.Why replace the Alt? doyou have a charging system problem as well???

    Nope i dont i was just figuring maybe since thats going, maybe i should replace the alternator lol. I was pretty sure it was the starter i just wanted to double check. Know of a good long lasting starter?

    i just replaced mine with some overr the counter one from Kragen, it came with a life time gaurantee for about $60 with the core, i also replaced the solenoid at the same time, most good parts stores should carry them
