well you need spark and fuel for the motor to run.

most important thing.. did it just stop all of a sudden.. or has it been like this a long time.. has it ever run, etc..

we need more details, but here are some starting points to check into

Take out the #1 spark plug, leave it connected to the plug wire.. does it spark when trying to start it?

if it sparks, you have spark (but not necessarily a guarantee, because it could be not enough, timing is off, etc.)

take the fuel line off the carb, put it into a catch can.. when you attempt to start the engine, does gas start coming out?
if so, thats a good sign.

have someone step on the gas pedal while you are looking down the carb, is all the linkages working, butterflies opening, and can you see fuel squirting into the intake?

things to look into, let us know what you did and what you observed while troublshooting..

    good luck
figuring it out is half the fun

Put a volt meter on your battery, check the voltage, just sitting, and then while cranking. Have you had the battery checked ? or can you boost it and see, if it'll start?
