I did this If you pull the front kickpanels, there are holes in the metal that will fit a 6 1/2 speaker. In the back-dash, there are holes in the metal to fit 6 x 9's. Now at Walmart the other night, I saw these speakers that mount longways by hanging on their side under the dash. I plan to do this also. I also have an amp and 2 10's in the trunk. I found a different radio faceplate in a junk maverick, and my pioneer CD player slid in there like it was made for it. You could take the stock AM faceplate, and cut it out to fit a CD player though. All in all, it is pretty easy to upgrade the Mav/comet sound dept. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions. Country
its pretty simple everything is there like country said. all i did was put some 6x9 explods on the rear deck. and replaced the dash speaker.wired them up to the stock radio and it doesnt sound that bad i guess its all about how much qualitiy you are looking for. im planning on getting a complete system but thats after i get the body straight and some new paint on.
Those front speaker holes are pretty shallow. What have you guys been using that filts under the factory grilles?
nah the radio is a later unit with FM if it only was AM i woulda took it out and smashed it with a bat already hehe just kidding i would atleast put it on ebay first
I heard dat! AM isn't that great around here. We get 2 stations, and they are both very fuzzy! Oh, what do you mean about the front grills Max? I don't understand................which for me, is nothing new, lol. Ya'll take care. Country
country do you have any pics of the subs in the trunk? im just getting some ideas for when i get mine.
what I meant was about the wiring really..... how do you run the wiring for, lets say a newer stero reciever?
Ok i just did this whole deal about two weeks ago. I got an Alpine in dash cd player, nothing fancy, just sounds good. Anyway I got the cheapest subs I could get, for free actually, in a box and tossed them in the trunk. Then I got box speakers and dropped those bad boys underneath the seats. The wiring is real easy if you just label all the wires and follow the wiring diagrams given to you by the radio people when you buy your new stereo. You dont want to have that mean of a system in your maverick. Do you really want to have something that desireable for people to think, "hmm I want that, maybe ill just break into that old car and take it for my own"? I dont think putting a ton of money into a system is smart in a car such as a maverick. Its not worth the money of the system itself and whatever the theif does to your car trying to rip it out! Just think it over as to what you put into your car. -Todd
well i didn't want subs, just more speakers, instead of the one in the dash. also AM isn't very appealing anymore.
